Though U.S. news media have reduced their coverage of the U.S. occupation of Iraq\, understanding the conflict is as crucial as ever for U.S. citizens. Independent media such as Big Noise Films help fill that gap. Filmmaker Rick Rowley screened three short films that originally aired on Al Jazeera English.

From the organic pancakes with real maple syrup to the fresh fruit salad\, from the silent auction to the easter egg hunt\, there was something for everyone. The all-you-can-eat pancakes were served all morning with the Easter Egg Hunt at 11am.

Did you know that almost 60% of your tax dollars are spent on the military industrial complex? \; That's working from January thru June just to support the military. \; Think of what even a fraction of those dollars\, if redirected\, could do for social justice and social welfare programs.
CPJC and the Beyond War Coalition created a bar graph using giant gold coins at the downtown Chico post office to educate Chicoans about where their tax dollars actually go!

The second annual Music for Peace Festival was a smashing success. This all-day family music festival celebrated and promoted peace in our community and around the world. \; Local musicians took the stage throughout the day\, along with local vendors and artists. Kids got their faces painted and henna tattoos. Veggie pizza and organic skimpy sprouts available\, plus Ben &\; Jerry's ice cream!

A standing-room only crowd atteneded the panel discussion moderated by Curtis Peldo (CSUC Department of Philosophy). Topics include &ldquo\;Why They Hate Us&rdquo\; (international anger directed at U. S. government policy)\; &ldquo\;Modern Civil War in the U.S. \: The Violence and Harms of the Criminal Justice System&rdquo\;\; &ldquo\;A Personal Account of Daily Suffering in Palestine &rdquo\; and &ldquo\;Beyond War\: A New Economy is Possible.&rdquo\;
Panelists included Mahan Mirza (CSUC Department of Religious Studies)\, Michael Coyle (CSUC Department of Political Science)\, Amro Jayousi (CSUC student) and Sue Hilderbrand (Butte College and Director\, Chico Peace and Justice Center ).
This event was sponsored by the Peace Institute at CSUC and is free and open to the public.

This exciting evening of community building was sponsored by the Beyond War Coalition\, CPJC\, and the Bethel AME Church. We took a critical look at what the new President has and has not accomplished-what promises have been kept and which remain-during his first hundred days.

We discussed the problems our community faces and how we think the president can meet the needs of the people\: in our community and region\, our state and nation\, and the world. This event was part of our ongoing campaign to demilitarize the national budget and put those funds to use meeting human needs here and abroad.
