Friday, June 10th - July 8th at 8am
Locations vary, see below

In the African country of Sudan, the world has witnessed nearly 40 years of blood shed between the North and the South.  Thousands have died over a set of complex issues ranging from economic hardship to religion and race. Six years ago a comprehensive peace agreement was signed to begin the process of splitting the country into two nations: North Sudan and South Sudan.

Independence Day is scheduled for July 9th, but there is fear that violence may destroy the comprehensive peace agreement in the region.  In response to this concern, a call for a worldwide prayer for peace and self-determination has been issued.

In Chico our faith communities have answered that call.  Each Friday at 8am PST (7pm EAT) a different group lead a 30 minute prayer for peace.

June 10th - Chico Friends Meeting House,  1601 Hemlock Street

June 17th - Trinity United Methodist Church,  285 East 5th Street

June 24th - Chico Peace & Justice Center garden, 526 Broadway Street

July 1st - Faith Lutheran Church, 667 First East Avenue

July 8th - First Christian Church, 295 East Washington Avenue

Every Friday at 8 AM morning mass was held at Our Divine Savior, on East Lassen, and 5pm evening mass was held at the Newman Center,  as well as Saint Joseph's.

Then on July 9th at the downtown plaza at 9am a final community prayer for peace and self-determination for the people of Southern Sudan was held on their day of independence.
